Blur are a rock band from England. Blur was formed in London in 1988. The band consisted of Damon Albarn (vocal and keyboard), Graham Coxon (guitar and backing vocal), Alex James (bass) and Dave Rowntree (drum). Blur's highest popularity happened in the 1990s periode. Between 1991 until 1999, Blur released 6 studio albums and became one of the greatest band in the UK. Blur also helped to popularise the Britpop genre and achieved massived popularity in the UK. They also involved rivality with other English band, Oasis. Their battle often dubben as The Battle of Britpop.

Profile and Biography of Blur


Blur released their debut album, Leisure in 1991. Following a stylistic change influenced by English guitar pop groups, Blur released three next studio albums, Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993), Parklife (1994) and The Great Escape (1995). These three albums were initially succesful. Blur also helped to popularise the Britpop genre and achieved massive popularity in the UK in the 1990s. Their greatest single in this periode, including Girls and Boys, For Tomorrow and Parklife.

Later in 1995, Blur involved in a chart battle with rival band, Oasis. This rivality started when Blur and Oasis released their new single in the same day. It were Country House (Blur) and Roll with It (Oasis). Their rivality often referred as The Battle of Britpop. At the end of the week, Country House ultimately outsold Roll with It, by 274.000 copies to 216.000, and becoming Blur's first number one single.

The next album, Blur (1997), showing influences from the style of American indie rock groups. That album including the Song 2 single, brought Blur mainstream success in the United States and also world-wide. Their next album, 13 saw the band members experimenting with electronic and gospel music, and featured more personal lyrics from Albarn. Blur's seventh studio album, Think Thank released in 2003, containing electronic sounds and more minimal guitar work. This album also became the latest Blur's album before they hiatus. 

In 2008, Blur reunited and held a series of concerts in the following year, and have continued to release several singles and retrospective releases, as well as tour internationally. And althought not release new album again, Blur still considered as one of the greatest band in the UK.
