History and Records of World Music Awards
World Music Awards, or simply called WMAs is an annual international awards show. This awards founded in 1989 under the High Patronage of Albert II, Prince of Monaco and is based in Monte-Carlo. This Awards designed and manufactured by R.S. Owens & Co. Unlike other awards which present by voting or based artist's chart song, World Music Awards are presented to the world's best-selling music artists in various categories and also from each different territory. The Awards are gold-plated, each depicting an Artist holding the world. While nine of all awards categories are voted online by the world public.
The World Music Awards show is broadcast to North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, Africa and some Asian country such Japan, China, India, South Korea, Indonesia and Philippines. This awards reaching an estimated worldwide audience of one billion viewers in over 160 countries each year.
Artists who won most World Music Awards is Mariah Carey. She won WMAs 17 times. Next to her is Michael Jackson with 16 times won. While for other record, Whitney Houston still holding record of the most WMAs won in a single year. During 1994 WMA show, she won five awards, include World's Best Pop Artist, World's Best R&B Artist, World's Best-Selling Recording Artist, Best-Selling American Artist. Next to her is Michael Jackson also with five awards in 1996. 50 Cent also won five awards in 2003 WMA show. In 2010, Lady Gaga also join this record with five awards.
World Music Awards show held each year from 1989 until 2010. Mostly, the awards night held in Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco. World Music Awards show also held once in Las Vegas (Thomas & Mack Center), Los Angeles (Kodak Theatre) and London (Earls Court Exhibiton Centre). But from 2011, this award not held again for some reason.
