Nirvana was an American rock band formed in Aberdeen, Washington, United States in 1987. Nirvana consisted by lead vocalist and guitarist Kurt Cobain, bassist Krist Novoselic and drummer Dave Grohl, who joined the band in 1990. Nirvana's music style was influenced by rock and grunge or often referred as Seattle Sound. Although only released three studio albums in seven-year career, Nirvana has sold over 75 million records world-wide, making Nirvana as one of the best-selling music artists of music history although released only three studio albums. They were regarded as one of the greatest, most important and most influential rock bands in music history of the modern era.

Nirvana begun their career in the late of 1980s, when they join as part of the Seattle grunge scene. Then, in 1989, Nirvana released their debut album, Bleach for an independent record. Later Nirvana signing to major label and released their second album titled Nevermind. Surprisely, this album became extremely successful. Nevermind sold over million records in world-wide and its first single, Smells Like Teen Spirit lead Nirvana to an international breakthrough success. This song also recognized as one of the best song of the 90s and also one of the greatest songs of all time. Nirvana's sudden success also widely popularized alternative rock as a whole. And with that unexpected success, then, Nirvana became one of the best bands of the 90s.
In 1993, Nirvana released their third and final studio album, In Utero. Although this album not as success as Nevermind album, but overall In Utero still a critical and commercial success. Nirvana's brief run ended following the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994, but various posthumous releases have been issued since, overseen by Novoselic, Grohl, and Cobain's widow Courtney Love.

But Nirvana has sold over 25 million records in the United States alone, and over 75 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists in history. In the years since the band's breakup, Nirvana has been ranked highly on several lists by various publications as one of the greatest artists of all time. Nirvana is set to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, the band's first year of eligibility. With all of them, not surprise if Nirvana considered among the greatest rock band in music history of all time.
