Biography and History of Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd were an English rock band that formed in England in 1965. They achieved international acclaim with their progressive and psychedelic music. Pink Floyd considered as one of the most commercially succesful and musically influential band in history of popular music. Their philosophical lyrics, and also elaborate during the live shows became one of Pink Floyd's main charateristic.

Pink Floyd consisted of Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and David Gilmour. They gained first popularity in London's underground music scene in 1960s. Later Barrett left the band due mental health. Then, Roger Waters became the band's primary lyricist. He is the one behind their critically and commercially acclaimed albums such The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here or The Wall.

Profile and History of Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd succesful hit the international music market in the 1970s era. Their biggest albums in that decade, including The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), The Wall (1979), plus The Final Cut (1983). All of that album sold millions copy worldwide. With that many high-profile albums, Pink Floyd also produced some of the best song of the 70s, such Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb, Time, The Wall or Another Brick in the Wall, Pt II. Those songs also considered as some of the best Pink Floyd songs.

In 1979, Richard Wright left the band, followed by Roger Waters in 1985. Only David Gilmour and Nick Mason continued as Pink Floyd with some additional musicians. Pink Floyd inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and later in the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. They succesful to sold more than 250 million records worldwide, including 74.5 million certified units in the United States.
